The Sock Saga... Part 2

AKA The Perfection of The Sock

For the past few days I have pretty much only been knitting on my Diamond Heel Socks. The pattern was designed by my friend Laura at Always Be Kind Yarn, whose yarn I am also using to make them.

The heel is constructed by making increases at two points until it grows to heel size, then you make a heel turn, then decrease in the same shape. It makes a long point above and below the heel that happens to fit my narrow feet very well.

The sock uses gradual m1 increases to start the heel and make that neat diamond shape

The best part of working this heel is that I didn't have to break out my long circulars for magic loop or use DPNs. I've thus far worked the entire sock with 9" circulars, aside from when I finish the toe.

This GORGEOUS colorway is called Mermaid Lagoon

When I first tried on the heel, my feet were b l e s s e d by the fit of these socks. I think it's the first time I nailed my gauge, because the fabric feels sturdy, yet it does not stretch too much when I wear the sock. These are also my first socks with hand dyed yarn, and I can already tell they will get much wear. Do you SEE the pooling? Because I am mesmerized by the tie dye look this yarn is giving. My friend is very talented with color.

I am very excited to continue on this sock journey. Perhaps this pair will be my first "perfect" (for me) pair. Thinking about knit vs. crochet feels like baking vs. cooking. This feels like a science more than an art, and I'm here for it.
